Clean Up On Your Web Rankings

Keywords are important when you create quality searchable content. Some companies scoff at this and others tend to "get it". This is an extremely important thing to remember as you put your campaigns together. Google is looking for keywords in your sales copy that are relevant to the searches. It has to be a perfect match in order for it to "yank" your page up to the top so everyone can see it.

Most developers don’t give a lot of thought to page names, but it can be an extremely beneficial way to get more keywords into your site without having to force them.

File Naming Guidelines:
Instead of products.html >> skincare-products.html
Use this method for every page and work your keywords into your site architecture where applicable.

You want to abide by a few rules before you go stuffing your title attributes with information that could be considered spam.

Multiple Ways To Spam
I am just as amazed as you are when it comes to SPAM techniques. But there are ways to hit the search engines with all sorts of unsavory tactics to get a top ranking. Keyword stuffing is a big problem with a lot of these dishonest SEOs out there.

There is also ways that you can stuff keywords into some very unlikely places such as Flash SWF files and javascript menus. But you want to avoid doing things like this so you don't get yourself banned.

Recently I was doing a project for the hotel industry when I noticed something very peculiar. There were many competing hotels in my market area stuffing keywords into their headlines. Needless to say I wanted to play a straight game and avoid getting my client blacklisted. So busting through the crud was not as easy it you may think. We had to be very careful with our selection of words and what order we put them in.

But this is how we got to the top. It took some time but we were able to get these pages indexed quite quickly. If you have an optimized page you can get it indexed in as little as a couple of days.

The New Viruses

Just a word of caution out there.

There are a lot of junky emails floating around out there that contain harmful viruses. Though innocent in appearance they can pull you back in your busy schedule. The latest one sort of slips under the radar....

DO NOT OPEN anything that has a, "Postcard From A Friend" on it.

These contain pieces of spyware and other nosy, busy body software material on them that scourge through your computer. Its best to direct these to the spam box.

NOTE: Keep your important files and works of progress in a portable hard drive.

A Storm Is Brewing In The Mid-West

As I write this quick update I am going through my email. I get the usual SPAM and garbage but this particular email actually made me bust out with laughter.

Among all the recent hoopla concerning one of the biggest innovations in Internet history I get this piece of stone age email. Its concerning VIDEO STREAMING. The best part about this is that they are actually charging people a bandwidth fee and a 15 dollars a month hosting fee.

** Not only are these products and services unnecessary they are really outdated. This is the first thing that got my attention. The surfer graphic in the email is another dead giveaway that this really from another era.

However, that era was valid just a few months ago. With the recent innovations with YouTube.com and Google Video it doesn't make sense to join up with any service that offers this type of arrangement. Its already outdated.
